May 12th and a sunny but cool and breezey morning saw me heading off on the bus to Wembury for a walk.
No moths were found in the toilet block but I did see 2 speckled yellows flitting about at The Point and a few lackey moth larva nests.

A few butterflies (green veined white, speckled wood, peacock) were on the wing despite the breeze and the highlight was a gorgeous green hairstreak feeding on thrift flowers.

Bird wise the highlight were the whimbrel with 2 seen flying in off the sea, 5 then seen feeding along the beach by the sewage pipe, 5 later seen flying west along the shore and then 4 feeding along the beach - mobile, vocal and flighty so difficult to get an accurate assessment of exact numbers present.
Also seen were a sparrowhawk, a kestrel, 2 ravens, a little egret, a pair of Canada goose, 2 pairs of shelduck, 7 oystercatcher, gannets offshore, swallows overhead, singing chiffchaff and blackcaps, songflighting whitethroats, 2 singing cirl buntings (heard only), house martins over the village and stonechats.

A glow worm larva, bloody nose beetles, a scorpion fly and 4 common lizards were also found along the footpath before I met up with David and mother-in-law for the drive round to the cafe at Jennycliff for lunch - a very enjoyable mornings walk with the green hairstreak sighting being a surprising and uplifting sighting indeed.
